Hello fellow General Surgery residents! I’m the chair of your CAGS Residents Committee. I’m a PGY-3 at the University of Alberta and originally from near London, Ontario.
Part of my role is to serve as your representative to the Association and ensure the needs and interests of resident members are considered. We have resident representation on the committee from nearly all of Canada's General Surgery Residency Programs. A description of the Residents Committee, and a list of our committee members can be found on this webpage.
Each year there is a Resident Symposium at the CSF which is a great opportunity to examine a topic or issue relevant to us. The topic we will cover this year is restrictions on General Surgery resident hours, and examining the impact of these restrictions on areas such as patient care, education, and resident well being.
News: The CAGS Residents Committee General Surgery Handbook is now online at CAGS Wiki Surgery! Check it out.
As your representative, I’m keen to find out from you what issues other residents across the country face, and help residents get involved with CAGS activities and committees. Feel free to drop me a line at maciver1@ualberta.ca, or contact your program's resident representative.
